Apple's iOS 7 said to be visually different, flat

A new report says Apple's next version of its iOS will look very different from previous iterations, though stay largely the same.

It's no secret Apple plans to show off the next major version of iOS at its annual developers conference in June, though what exactly will be different about the new software has been fuzzy.

Citing multiple people who have actually seen Apple's next iOS endeavor, 9to5Mac says Apple's making big changes in the look and feel of the software. Specifically making everything -- from app icons to interface features -- "very flat," as opposed to the bubbly and oftentimes realistic interfaces that have stayed mostly unchanged since 2007.

On top of this, the report adds that Apple is looking into additional ways to access basic information with gestures, similar to what it currently uses with a one-finger swipe to bring up Notification Center, and a four-finger swipe on the iPad to pull up the multitasking menu.

Apple is viewed as being at a point of transition when it comes to its own design. The company reshuffled its top management last October, ousting iOS software chief Scott Forstall, and putting both iOS and Mac software under the guidance of former Mac software chief Craig Federighi. Those moves were underscored with hardware designer Jony Ive taking on "leadership and direction for Human Interface" across all of Apple. A report last month claimed the industrial design and software teams were already working more closely, as a result.Design changes are nothing new when it comes to Apple software. OS X in particular, has undergone major revamps every few years. That includes a storied history of pinstripes, brushed metal, and glassy windows, which -- at various points in the last few years -- could be seen right next to one another in different apps, in the same major release. iOS, on the other hand, has seen plenty of changes in interface elements, but not the look and feel of the home screen itself.

In taking a flat approach to its system software, Apple would join Microsoft and Google, which have gone that route with their Windows Phone and Android software. In both of those cases, the changes reflect part of a larger design language that can be found in other products and services.

Apple's WWDC, where the software is expected to debut, begins on June 10. The show, which is typically attended by about 5,000 developers, sold out in two minutes last week.

Sony releases ICS beta ROM for Xperia PLAY

We've got some good news and some bad news for you. Sony Mobile has just released a beta ICS ROM for the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY, which allows you to experience the goodies of the latest Android version on your smartphone right away.

The sad part is that it comes with too many compromises, which means that it's probably only worth flashing if you are a developer. To apply the update, you'll have to unlock the bootloader of your Xperia PLAY and that will prevent you from getting the official update whenever it hits. Also, the ROM comes without support for Wi-Fi or the Google Services (like Gmail and Google Maps), which basically means that you'd be giving away some of the most essential features of your PLAY.

The main purpose of this beta ICS ROM is for developers to test the compatibility of their apps. Sony is obviously working hard to ensure that the PLAY won't be losing any of its gaming prowesses after the update and is set to do proper testing before releasing anything.

Google Body Browser: Review, Features and How To Guide

Have you heard of the new Google Body Browser? Well, the Google labs has just launched a body browsing Web page that will allow its users to look up at an organ and find it in the human body. Google seems to be coming out with a lot of new applications lately and seems very serious in trying out something new.

Basically, the Google Body Browser is a very interesting WebGL supported application that allows its users to explore the human body just like how the Google Earth is exploring the world. Well, at first it seems to be a little impossible to have such an application that can do such thing, but this thing is really for real although it cannot be denied that it works a little bit difficult.

The Google Body Browser actually allows its users to search the human body in three different dimensions. It uses WebGL, a 3D graphics API that runs within the said browser. However, you need to install a beta version of the Google Chrome browser first in order to try it out. After successfully installing it, you need to restart your browser and then you can already try the Body Browser and see how it works.

The Body Browser features a detailed 3D model of the human body that you can zoom in and navigate those body parts that interest you. In this browser, you can simply click a body part in order to know its anatomy or search for muscles, organs, bones and more. This browser would be a useful tool especially for those people in the medical fields, students and researchers out there.

However, this Body Browser is a little bit limited. There is no way to switch from the default female body model and there is also no way to find additional video and other information about the human body as well. Although it is also a bit surprising that this browser doesn’t need a plug-in in order to work.

In spite of the issues raised about this new browser, the fact still remains that this is such a helpful application that will help many in understanding the human body. Google may just need to do a little more improvement and tweak some of its own technology in order to make the Google Body Browser better. So let us wait and see if Google will come out with a better version of this browser in the future.

The earliest known interactive electronic game was by Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann on a cathode ray tube. The patent was filed on January 25, 1947 and issued on December 14, 1948. 1951: NIM

On May 5, 1951, the NIMROD computer, created by Ferranti, was presented at the Festival of Britain. Using a panel of lights for its display, it was designed exclusively to play the game of NIM; this was the first instance of a digital computer designed specifically to play a game. In 1952, Alexander S. Douglas made the first computer game to use a digital graphical display. In 1958, William Higinbotham made an interactive computer game named Tennis for Two for the Brookhaven National Laboratory's annual visitor's day. In 1959-1961, a collection of interactive graphical programs were created on the TX-0 experimental computer at MIT. These included Mouse in the Maze[9] and Tic-Tac-Toe. A virtual mouse represented by a dot was then released and would traverse the maze to find the objects. In 1961, MIT students Martin Graetz, Steve Russell, and Wayne Wiitanen created the game Spacewar! on a DEC PDP-1 mini-computer which also used a vector display system. The game, generally considered the first Shooter game,[citation needed] spread to several of the early mini-computer installations, and reportedly was used as a smoke test by DEC technicians on new PDP-1 systems before shipping, since it was the only available program that exercised every aspect of the hardware. In 1966, Ralph Baer resumed work on an initial idea he had in 1951 to make an interactive game on a television set. In May 1967, Baer and an associate created the first game to use a raster-scan video display, or television set, directly displayed via modification of a video signal - i.e. a "video" game. The "Brown Box", the last prototype of seven, was released in May 1972 by Magnavox under the name Odyssey. It was the first home video game console.
1971: Galaxy Game
In 1971, Bill Pitts and Hugh Tuck developed the first coin-operated computer game, Galaxy Game, at Stanford University using a DEC PDP-11/20 computer; only one unit was ever built (although it was later adapted to run up to eight games at once).
1971: Computer Space
Two months after Galaxy Game's installation, Computer Space by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney was released, which was the first coin-operated video game to be commercially sold (and the first widely available video game of any kind, predating the Odyssey by six months). Both games were variations on the vector display 1961 Spacewar!; however, Bushnell and Dabney's used an actual video display by having an actual television set in the cabinet.
1972: Pong
Pong, also by Bushnell and Dabney, used the same television set design as Computer Space, and was not released until 1972 – a year after Computer Space.
